Jaguars at Washington Tonight

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

The Jacksonville Jaguars are playing their final preseason game tonight against the Washingston Redskins. Starters rarely player in the final preseason games, so don’t expect to see Fred Taylor on the field. Tonight’s game is played to determine who will make those final few roster spots.

Because there isn’t much Freddy T news, here’s a quick video of Fred talking about his workout regime over the off season. They even have footage of him working out (check out those big blue shorts!)

Taylors Runs Hard in Tampa Bay

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

The Jacksonville Jaguars played their third preseason game of 2008 on August 23 in Tampa Bay against the Bucs. Fred Taylor ran hard on 7 carries for 26 yards. While that may only be 3.7 yards per carry, it doesn’t matter. The defense knew Fred was going to run so they schemed around it. The important thing is that Freddy ran hard for a few carries and came out strong and healthy.

When interviewed after the game, Fred was a little hard on the offense, always seeing room for improvement. “The defense came out and started excellent and created turnovers. … That is the type of football we definitely want to try and play this year,” Jacksonville running back Fred Taylor said. “Offensively, we capitalized and did some good things. But of course, we know we can get better.”

The Jags will play their final preseason game this coming weekend against Washington.

Taylor Sees the Field in Preseason Game 2

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Fred Taylor was active and saw a little action in Saturday’s Jacksonville Jaguars game against the Miami Dolphins. Fred ended the game with 4 carries for 7 yards. All his carries were right up the center of the line, and on one of the plays he ran right into the back of one of the offensive linemen.

I was very surprised Jack Del Rio let him play for nearly an entire quarter. I would have only had him in there on 1 series. It’s just not worth the risk of injury. Fred was getting hand offs and running into the backfield looking for receptions.

I know it’s just preseason, but the Jaguars offense looked horrid. They couldn’t get anything going against a terrible Miami defense. I hope we can get it together by week 1 of the regular season. Taylor suggests that we’ll see some improvement by next week.

“The third one [preseason game] is always the one that simulates real-time stuff more than any other preseason game,” Taylor said. “I guarantee we’ll look better than we looked tonight. I promise you that.”

Fred Should Play Saturday

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Fred Taylor sat out the first Jaguars preseason game on August 9th, and for good reason. There is absolutely no reason a 10 year veteran should trot out there for 1 carry in a meaningless exhibition game. Now that week 2 of the preseason is coming up and the Dolphins are coming to town, I think we might see Fred get 1-2 carries. Although I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Del Rio holds him out again.
