Pete Prisco, from CBS Sportsline, posted his top 50 players in the NFL regardless of position. You can check out the entire rankings here.
Fred Taylor, the only Jaguar to make the list, came in at #49. A little bit low considering he had a Pro Bowl year, but still a nice honor considering he is 32 years old. Here’s what Pete had to say:
49. Fred Taylor, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: Taylor finally got his due last season with his first Pro Bowl appearance. At 32, he remains one of the biggest home-run threats in the league. His 5.4 per-carry average was second best among the league’s best rushers to Peterson (5.6).
There’s no denying Fred Taylor is one of the most important, if not the most important, pieces to the Jacksonville Jaguars success. Over the past decade, if Fred Taylor went down, the team would fall in the toilet until he returned. It’s nice to see this #49 ranking, and I hope he can have a great 2008 season and move up the list next year.

The 10-year veteran was a rookie all over again at this years Pro Bowl in Hawaii. While the AFC did lose the game 42-30, Fred Taylor lead his team in carries. Too bad it was only 3… but still. He had 3 carries for 15 yards. One of his carries came on the 5 yard line in which he took it to the 1. Coach Norv Turner tried to get Freddy in the end zone, but it just didn’t happen.
Everyone was happy to have Fred at the Pro Bowl. “You could see how truly excited he is and he’s not taking it for granted,” said Manning, an eight-time Pro Bowler. “He’s deserving. I think a lot of players around the league are happy Fred is over here. What a great player he is. I’ve played against him since my freshman year in college. I know.”
Fred Taylor had a blast while in Hawaii. In the pre-game interview, he said he brought 38 people with him. It must have been a great trip for him and his family and friends. Congrats once again to Fred.

In the same year as his first ever NFL Pro Bowl, Fred Taylor has also been voted the FedEx Ground Player of the Year. All of this at the age of 31. WOW! Fred was up against some big names like LaDainian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson. It is a huge honor for him to win this award. By winning, FedEx will donate $25,000 to Wolfson’s Children Hospital in Downtown Jacksonville.
Here’s what NFL.com had to say about Fred Taylor
Taylor led the Jaguars to an 11-5 record and the number five seed in the AFC by rushing for 1,202 yards (fifth in the AFC, ninth in the league) over only 223 carries (5.4 average) and scoring five touchdowns. Taylor helped the Jaguars finish strong by finishing his season with five 100-plus yard games in Weeks 12-16, with one of his best performances coming at Pittsburgh, rushing for 147 yards over 25 carries and scoring one touchdown to beat the Steelers 29-22. This year, Taylor became the 21st running back in history with 10,000 yards rushing (10,715). Taylor was nominated for two FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week awards in 2007, winning once.

Fred Taylor is up for the FedEx Ground Player of the Year Award. Fans can cast their vote on the NFL.com Voting Page.
They don’t currently tell you who is leading the voting, but he is up against LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers and Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings. All players are worthy of this award. Somehow I don’t think Fred Taylor will win it, though. For one, he plays in such a small market and two, his yearly stats weren’t as good as Tomlinson’s or Peterson’s.
But that’s why us Jag fans need to rally the vote. Pass the link on to all your friends and family. Fred’s already going to the Pro Bowl, now let’s get him the FedEx Ground award too!

After 10 years, Fred Taylor can no longer be called the greatest player to never make a Pro Bowl. Today, Taylor was added to the AFC Roster and will join fellow AFC running backs LaDainian Tomlinson and Joseph Addai. It’s a shame that Taylor was added because of an injury to Willie Parker, but Taylor definitely deserves this honor and has every right to accept it.
“Whenever it came up, I said I’d cross that bridge whenever I get to it,” Taylor said Tuesday. “Now it’s here. It doesn’t change my approach at all. My team has been excited ever since I guess they understood what happened to Willie that particular week.”
Taylor ran for 1,202 yards this season (despite not playing the final game) and averaged a career-best 5.4 yards per carry. He also finished the season with five consecutive 100-yard games. I can’t imagine any other 31 year old running backs having five 100-yard games in a row.
I can’t wait to watch Taylor run in Hawaii. Something tells me he’s going to have a Cal Ripken like game. Possibly a big 50 yard homerun hit for a touchdown.
Jack Del Rio had some nice things to say about Fred as well. “He’s very excited about receiving that honor. We’re happy for him. Fred’s been one of the all-time greats here in Jacksonville. We’re very happy for him individually. But I think Fred would tell you he’s most excited right now about the opportunity to pursue a championship.”
Once again, congratulations Freddy T!

Congratulations to Fred Taylor on being named the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Month by the NFL. The month of December was one of the best 4-game stretches of his career. Fred rushed for 494 yards on 64 carries (7.7 avg.) with three touchdowns. His stats would have been even better had he not sat out the last game of the season for extra rest.
“It’s a good honor,” said Taylor on the AFC Offensive Player of the Month award. “I have worked hard, but all the credit goes to my offensive line and my fullback, Greg Jones. We’ve got to keep going, though, we got to keep going.”
