Fred Taylor Still Struggling

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Once again, the Jacksonville Jaguars couldn’t get it going on the ground. Fred Taylor was limited to only 49 yards on 14 carries, he also added 5 yards from 1 reception. The Jags lost the game 20-16. Even though their offensive line is complete garbage, it’s no excuse for the Jaguars poor offensive play.

They have got to get the run game going, and they need to do it in a way that isn’t so damn predictable. Fred isn’t ready to give up on it just yet. “I got a little juice,” Taylor said. “That’s my job. My job is to create positive yardage, regardless of how the play’s blocked. I’ve been doing it my whole career.”

The Jags have to travel to Indianapolis this week. It’s going to be a very tough game, but Fred always plays them well. If the Jaguars want any shot at the playoffs, they must win this game.

Fred Taylor vs. the Buffalo Bills

Friday, September 12th, 2008

The Jacksonville Jaguars have their home opener this week against the Buffalo Bills. Despite the Jaguars wretched offensive line, they are still favored in the game by 5 1/2 points. If the Jaguars want to win this game, they’ll need to run the ball. Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones Drew are the Jaguars offensive and keys to success.

Marcus Stroud will be returning to Jacksonville, but this time in a Bills uniform. No doubt he’ll be angry and looking to stuff everyone at the line of scrimmage. The Jags need to be ready for it. Fred Taylor needs to be ready for it.

The Jags just couldn’t get Fred (or anyone for that matter) going last week. That needs to change. We must establish the run early by going to the outside. Our O-line won’t be able to open big gaps up the middle.

With the state of the Jags offense, I wouldn’t expect much from Fred this week. I’m thinking 12 carries and 65 yards. I doubt he’ll score because this will be another low scoring game like 16-10 or something.

Jags Get Their Asses Kicked

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Boy was I wrong in my prediction for Fred Taylor against the Titans. His streak of five straight regular-season games with 100 yards rushing came to an end. The Jags got freaking owned a the line of scrimmage all game, and couldn’t get anything going on the ground. In their 17-10 loss, the Jags only rushed 33 yards as a team. WHOA! Fred Taylor contributed 18 of those rushing yards on 9 carries (he also added 9 yards on 1 reception). What a shitty day for Fred and the Jags.

To be fair, the Jaguars running game can’t be attributed to the poor play of Fred Taylor. Their offensive line was absolutely horrid. At one point in the game, the Jags had no more offensive linemen on reserves. If someone would have got hurt, they would have had to bring in a TE to block on the line.

Fred seemed optimistic though. “The only thing this game guarantees is that we won’t go undefeated,” said running back Fred Taylor, who was held to 18 yards on nine carries. “We’ll be fine.” I’m not sure if I’m as optimistic as Freddy though. The Jaguars looked god awful. The only thing keeping me sane is the fact that they did this same thing last year, and 2007 turned out all right.

Fred Taylor vs. Tennessee Titans

Friday, September 5th, 2008

This marks the second year in a row that the Jacksonville Jaguars will open the season against their division rival the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee got the best of them last year in Jacksonville. Fred Taylor only had 6 carries that game for 16 yards. The entire Jaguars team stunk it up that game. But 2008 is a new season. The Jaguars have a chip on their shoudler and won’t get man handled by Jeff Fisher again.

Fred Taylor is 100% healthy. He had several carries in the preseason to get him prepared for this year. Tennessee is an extremely tough run defense team, but that won’t stop Jack Del Rio from wanting to pound the ball. I think the Jaguars get up early by double digit points, and then just run the clock the second half.

I think Fred Taylor will end up with 18 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown (coming on a 30 yard run). He’ll continue his hot streak that he started at the end of the 2007 season. My score prediction is 28-10 Jaguars.

Fred Taylor Named Team Captain

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Fred Taylor has been named Team Captain by Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio. Yesterday he announced five players who’ve been appointed captains: Fred Taylor, David Garrard, Paul Spicer, Daryl Smith and Rashean Mathis. “All guys we’re counting on to lead our football team in the right direction,” Del Rio said.

Fred Taylor has been a team captain for many years. He’s a veteran leader in the locker room and on the field. By being named captain, he’ll once again have that big “C” patch on his jersey so that everyone can recognize his honor.

Congrats Freddy T and good luck this weekend.

Fred Taylor Poised for a Big Game

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

For some players, negative publicity may be a distraction… but for Fred Taylor, it’s a motivator. I have a good feeling Fred is going to run like a mad man against Tennessee this week. Not only does he hate the Titans, but he’ll want to shut everyone up about the incident last weekend.Freddy has never rushed for over 100 yards on an opening day. I think that changes this year at Tennessee. I’ll have a full game preview later this week, including my stat predictions. So stay tuned!
